What is “absolutely the saddest thing in the world” (31)? Explain why Junior says this and the implication.

Jackson Greeley
Part time Indian

On page 31 in the book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, the "absolutely saddest thing" is that the geometry book that Junior has to use is over thirty years old. Junior found this out when he was writing his name at the front of the book. While he was writing this, he stumbled across the name "Agnes Adams." Junior's moms maiden name was Adams, which she changed when he was born. Therefor he concluded that the geometry book was over thirty years old.
The reason Junior was so upset was because it shows that the school he attended was too poor to get new books. On page thirty one it says: "My school and tribe are so poor and sad that we have to study from the same dang books our parents studied from. This is absolutely the saddest thing in the world." Junior felt really disappointed because of his tribes economic status.
