Poverty and Dreams

On page twelve the cartoon drawn by Arnold/Junior represents what his parents may have looked like if they weren't so poor. On page eleven Arnold says, "My parents came from poor people, who came from poor people who came from poor people , all the way back to the very first poor people." What arnold is saying is that poverty is just part of his life and background, and it's preventing his parents from their dreams.
Poverty is represented in these dreams, even though these are their "rich" dream look. On one of the items it lists the price of it, which is $50. I think Junior put that their to show, that a $50 dollar hair cut it very expensive for their family. They need the money for something else. Also, another relationship between poverty and dreams is their jobs. Because they where so poor, they weren't able to pursue their dreams as teachers and musicians. In the cartoon poverty and dreams where shown to represent Arnold/Junior's parents if they had the chance to make their dreams happen.
